What a wacky world that is the car shipping business. It all comes down to your agent. Every company is posting to a board all the drivers see and bid on. The broker is trying to find the sweet spot so your car gets bid on and doesn't sit there. Drivers will take the cars with the highest bids. Your broker is the key to all of this and how well they communicate. After being contacted by literally dozens of companies I finally chose a carrier that was rated higher than Mercury. The agent seemed good at first. But then it's like the agent had a lobotomy over the weekend. Had to fire them. Being on a tight sked I reached out to Pete Reynolds at Mercury. He made a good first impression and I should have listed to my gut instinct. Pete found a driver where the other company did not. Pete was always easy to reach and returned my calls promptly. I still think there is a lot of luck involved with the final carrier. A company can try to work with drivers who've been good in the past, but I can see how that could go bad very easily, like this: I was planning on meeting the driver at a location away from my house to ease delivery. I was expecting a call from the driver an hour before delivery to arrange that. Luckily I had just returned home and was standing outside as I saw the truck roll up the street with my car on it. The driver never called.
