Angels Moving Autos set me up with a car pick up the following day! They are small, family-run, and located in California, which was the origination point of the vehicle. Sammy answered the phone, and assured me that her personally knew the driver, Joe, the carrier who would be transporting my car. Joe's company is a Phoenix-based business, and he was picking up cars in Los Angeles the following day, so I said OK, do it. I chose Angels because of the good reviews I saw online, and also because I was very nervous about the notoriety of this industry. Sammy warned me that the car would be transported on one of those open car carriers, and that it would be dusty. So I didn't wash it first. Joe telephoned me to pick up the car the following day, as planned. We carefully checked the car for scratches prior to loading. The car was in Los Angeles, and there was no place to park his 18 wheeler anywhere near our house, so we drove down about 3 miles away and met him where he could park. It was a hassle-free transaction, fast, and aside from the $250 downpayment made to Angels on a credit card over the phone during our first contact, no money was paid until delivery. The car arrived 1 week later, unscathed. Joe called twice during his trip, letting me know approximately when he'd arrive near my house, about an hour south of Boston. He gave me a large time window, so I waited around for his call. But first I called the police in my small town, asking permission for Joe to pull over on a highway overpass near my house, setting up the drop-off for him, which he clearly appreciated, he said it was perfect. The delivery went like clockwork, I paid him, we checked for damage with a flashlight because it was nighttime (there was no damage), and I drove off in my car. Sammy, from Angels, also stayed in touch with me during the week to confirm that all was going as planned.
The total cost for this coast-to-coast transport job was $1300. It was not the cheapest (some estimates were under $1000.) but I was forewarned that some companies add on extra fees in the end, and Angels does not do that. They are insured. I felt safe giving them my car and did not worry at all.
Things to remember: It is illegal for the truck driver to drive his 18 wheeler through most residential neighborhoods, so it is doubtful you will get door-to-door service. If you can figure out ahead of time a convenient location where the car carrier can legally stop, the driver might appreciate this information. Also, go online and research car transport companies. Read about the industry. Get a list of questions to ask, then talk to several companies until you find one you're comfortable with. Also, keep in mind the fact that your car will get dirty on an open car carrier, so if you have a problem with that you should make other arrangements for your car.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Angels Moving Autos, and also recommend Joe (Moonlight, from Phoenix) as a driver you would be lucky to be assigned to. - -KIM.
